Den G is right. Since you did not mention whether you are a foreigner or a local, it will be unwise to speculate on this.

As a local, aside from the plane ticket, you need to have a valid ID for inspection. Unless you plan to do some duty-free shopping or skeedoodle to Kota Kinabalu from Cagayan de Oro, you do not need your passport.

As a foreigner, as what Den G mentions, it is best you keep your passport handy (why do you want to leave it in the first place?). Remember that some foreigners may enter the country without any visa for a limited period. Random checks at the airports are sometimes done to ensure you haven't exceeded this limit. Also, if you have hotel bookings and the like, the passport is the best identification of you that you can offer.

If Filipino.... Not yet. Mindanao is still a part of the Philippines. All you woudl need is an ID to present with your ticket.

If foreigner... If you have entered the Philippines through Manila, you won't need your passport unless you don't have any other ID that could help identify you with the ticket you are holding. But it is advised that foreigners just take their passports of photocopy of it wherever they go in the Philippines just for identification purposes when required.

passport is not necessary for a domestic flight...you may just bring a valid i.d. to present upon check-in at the airport. don't forget the ticket of course. =)

Well it depends....

If you are a local then the answer to your question is:
-NO! You don't need a passport. You just need to bring an identification card during check-in.

If you are not a local then the answer to your question is:
-It is better that you bring your passport along because in case they question you or during check-in processes.

Once you are here in the Philippines, there's no need for you to have your passport everytime you go on island hopping. Hope you will enjoy your stay here in the Philippines.
Take care and GOD BLESS YOU ON YOUR TRIP.

No. It's not necessary if you're flying within the Philippines.
