"in spite of the fact that all 50 state legislatures have submitted 568 applications (far in excess of the two-thirds requirement) requesting a convention call, Congress has ignored its constitutionally mandated duty."

In the event that Congress does what it is required to do by the Constitution and calls the Convention which all 50 states have called for, there would be an election for delegates to revise the Constitution. They would be allowed to propose as many amendments as they like, whether to the people or to the state legislatures, in the same manner that Congress can propose amendments. This convention would last until it breaks itself up and would be allowed to change anything, even proposing a new Constitution if that is what was judged best.

Considering the way this president and the recent Congresses have governed, we need this convention more than ever. Why isn't it being called for by Congress as they are required to do?

It's shocking that nobody seems to realize that there would be elections for delegates to a Convention and no amendments could be passed without approval of alot of state legislatures (I think its 38) or ratifying conventions elected by the people of those states. There is no danger that ridiculous amendments could be passed, because they'd get voted down.

Sorry to be redundant but what we are dealing with are corrupt career politicians in congress, that will bend or break the rule of law to remain in control of our money and our lives.

Until we eliminate careerists in congress we will always live in the shadow of fear, fear for our freedom.

Wake up America we are at war, and the enemy is within.

Please reread your closing statement:

A Constitutional Convention with the powers that be would be frightening. I consider it a blessing it has not been convened. Essentially in a Constitutional Convention the entire existing document could be thrown out and none of the freedoms we currently have may exist in the revision. We could indeed become a totalitarian regime, theocracy, or oligarchy...it just depends on who is in power at the time of the rewrite.

While our foundation is not perfect, it is the best in the world even with its flaws. Allowing the dominant group to toss it out the window in favor of whatever views they hold could be disasterous. We could end up in another Civil War likely based on class or educational distinction.

Think of it this way, would you not prefer to deal with the devil you know or the devil you do not know?

AuntLaLa said it best so far and I have to add that we currently have all the tools necessary at hand and they are being employed by Congress. The wheels of change roll slowly, but they do roll. Keep the faith.

The responsibility for the manner by which the government governs is that of the voters of the United States. That's all that is required for changes to occur.

For what purpose are the states calling the convention. You can't rewrite the entire constituion. That is absurd.
