I have a pretty good idea about this, but wanted to know if anyone else might have more information on this subject.

Please give your sources for your information. If it is Wikipedia, it's possible I may have been the author, or one of the authors. I am looking for something more substantial.

Most of the first and second wave did come from Laos, but their history there is not that long. Many have only been there for two or three generations.

Even the Hmong people do not entirely know. We younger generations know that the majority our parents come from Thailand and perhaps their parents come from Laos. They say we originally come from mountainous regions thousands of years ago, however in our fables and stories, they always include farming, and cultivating things such as rice that had to have happened on flat land. Hmong history has not been documented by paper, since we didnt develop our written language until the 1950s by the French. It's hard to decide which things are truly real and which are just myths. There are theories the Hmong people originate from China, Mongolia, Sibera and even mesopotamia. Some even say perhaps the Hmong people have always lived in Southeast asia and have not migrated much. However, without much documentation and silly connections at times, of course all of these theories are all flawed in their own ways. It's unsure of where exactly Hmong people originate from in the very beginning. No one truly knows, and we may never know,

Approximately 5000 years ago, the ancestors of the Hmong lived along the lower reaches of the Yellow River in China. Wars and persecution from other ethnic groups forced the Hmong to flee their homelands southward to Indochina. They apparently left China at the end of the 19th century to settle near the tops of mountains in Indochina: Laos, Thailand, Burma, and Vietnam.
