The Earth, Sun and planets condensed out of a nebula ( cloud) of gas and
dust, which was in turn rotating around the galactic centre. Its own
rotation, at first, was very slow, but, as the early nebula condensed,
the speed of rotation increased - This is just like the case of a
ballet dancer whose rotation speed increases as she draws in her hands
from an outstretched to a "by your sides" position as she spins . This
is the principle of conservation of angular momentum- though I wouldn't
bring that up in talking to a 2-3 years old!
It continues to this day because the Earth being very heavy, has
enormous momentum, and, Space being effectively a vacuum, offers no
resistance. However there is evidence that, over geological time, the
Earth's day has grown longer- it was less than 21 hours when the first
land animals appeared, and at formation was about 4 hours. One day it
will be 47 hours. One factor slowing down the Earth's rotation is the
presence of the Moon, whose gravitational pull provides a small
resistance. The Moon , being much lighter, has slowed into lockstep with
Earth so that its day equals its orbital period ( a month)Why are the
clouds black or gray?
The colour depends on the bulk of water which absorbs/reflects
different wavelengths of incoming light from the Sun -and also
particulte dust embedded within the cloud. The sky normally scatters
blue light and so appears blue, but the concentrated water vapiour and
dust in turn absorbs some of the blue wavelenths. If all is absorbed the
effect is black; with gray, it is a matter of degree.

we have seen when a skater who has arms extended and is slowly spinning suddenly pullls the arms into the body surface. The result is that spin rate increases. To even spin faster the skater will be standing straight with the arms up over the head. This makes the distributions of mass as close toe the spin axis as possible and makes the spin as large as possible. The main idea is that angular momentum is conserved , ie, cannot change. Angular momentum is the product of the spin rate and the moment of inertia ( a measure of the distribution of the mass about
the axis of rotation) The product is constant. If mass is widely dispersed as before condensing into a planet, and is very slowly rotating, then when it condenses into a planet (making a small moment of inertia) the rate of rotation could be large. So condensing amplifies whatever
rotation there was initially. Now, what are the chances of something not rotating exactly before it condenses? Apparently, very small since everything seems to have some rotation. I am not sure this gets to your question of why, but it has been a great question to think about.
Thanks.

if it did not ,one side would freeze in the forever night and there would not be any plants there or anything else for that matter (far to cold and dark)

and the other side would burn in the sun with the result that the place would become a dessert very easily and everybody would stay indoors a lot of the time, before they died of the lack of food

lucky for us we keep on turning so that we can stay alive and ask weird questions.

it turns because we turn around the sun

they say that one of the Gods Thor give it a big hit with his hammer ,when he was paying ball and we are still spinning

when we stop better hope that Thor is still around
to smack us again or we end up as frozen french fries, and the questions will come to a stop

The earth turns due to its gravitational pull. When it gravitates one mass in the space, the other mass comes to gravitate the earth. This process goes on and it becomes to take rounds and rounds for alll times to come. It will come to an end. There is end to every things in this world. If it stops, the entire universe will finish and there will be collisions of stars and earth and our universe will then vanish. It will be dooms day.
