Hi, i was one of the mugs who bought a PS3 at xmas from eBay, its a 60GB Hong Kong version. As good as it is, i was able to buy a few games on eBay from america which play no problem. Well the missus bought me tiger woods golf at the weekend (from a UK shop) and guess what, it wont work. Is this the reality that i must face that all UK games will not work on this piece of crap???

OK one thing is PS3s are never released in hong kong during that time, so basically you got a US 60GB PS3.

Regarding about playing discs bought from other countries, this only applies in Blue Ray movies as far as I know of but looks like they did it also in games. There's a thing called "Regions" it's been around even at the age of DVDs, basically a Region 1 player cannot play Region 2 and vice versa unless you hack the system (usually by changing the BIOS).

So basically you have to buy US games buddy :(. BUT all hope is not lost because the PS3 that was released in the UK is not as good as the US version. US PS3s have a better chipset and compatibility for older titles is a lot better on US PS3s.

I have one and I like mine, no must-have games though :(. Yet :P

- Basic Region Rundowns -

Region 1 - USA, Canada
Region 2 - Middle East, Europe, etc.
Region 3 - South East Asia, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong
Region 4 - Mexico, South America, Australia
Region 5 - Russia etc.
Region 6 - China

Wow, see what impatience get you?
Well, the world of electronics are divided into regions. In the movies, video games, cell phones and computer software, they are divided by the region that they are produced. The game you bought is a region two which is europe, which can only be used by consoles that are made for these regions.
I feel your pain, however, the solution to this problem is for you to buy a game from the asian region, then you can enjoy the game.

do now no longer overlook that now no longer all PS2 were BC with the BC PS3 fashions ! even with the reality that, there is two complication-free the way you're prepared to inform if a 60GB is an unique BC launch type ! one way is that if it has 4 USB ports at the front of the console and any incorrect way is the style huge type ! the unique 60GB were type CECHA01 ! research your type and the research your PS2 interest compatibility ! I comprise a link to Sony's internet web site to envision interest compatibility !

its a standard thing, region specific discs arent new to the PS3 they've been around for years.

just buy your games from e-bay as imports and you'll be fine.

Hang on to it. Sooner or later some one will find a 'workaround' and you will be able to play anything.
