There is a HUGE difference. You can think of the General Manager (GM) as all of the Managers' manager. He is the big boss, below the president and investors.

Well actually there is a big difference between those two. A general manager is the one who owns the company or that kind of business or the one who has the higher right for that establishment. While a manager has its limitations. Like you can say that a manager only manages one branch while the general manager manages all of the establishment's branches and operations.

It totally depends on the company you are talking about. Usually the general manager is the more senior manager.
