You can go on a diet just make sure that you are getting the appropriate amount of food from the right food groups. New mothers in the first year dont eat good anyways because they are too busy tending to the baby so i dont see how a diet will hurt. I am dieting nothing major though i watch my intake i eat 3 times a days small portions and then 2 snacks and i make sure i take my prenatal vitamins. So if you start a diet you always want to make sure it is healthy by talking to a dr then if they feel you are still getting the proper nutrition start it and keep taking your prenatals for the breast feeding. Dieting really helps with the breast feeding to lose weight. nice healthy decision on your part

Yes. Your body requires an additional 500 calories per day to make breast milk. If you diet you strip your body of essential nutrients and vitamins that would go into the breast milk, not to mention your body will not have the energy to make the milk.
If you want to lose weight after your pregnancy, do it normally, remember it took you nine months to gain it, and it's gonna take nine months to take it off. Also the first 3 months after giving birth is the worst time for you to try losing weight, you and baby are still getting to know each other and trying to settle into a somewhat sane routine.

They say you shouldn't diet if you are breastfeeding but it doesn't hurt to eat healthily. The only thing you should watch is that certain things can upset a babies stomach. Cabbage, spicey food etc. If you eat a low fat diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables then I'm sure you'll lose wheight and be healthy. Getting out and about with your baby will also help, walking is great excersise. Just watch you don't do too much though and tire yourself out. I know from experience that breastfedding and looking after babies is hard work! I have 5!

You won't need to diet when breastfeeding. Eat good healthy food and plenty of it and drink lots of water and you'll see the pounds come off anyway!! Baby sucks up about 500 calories a day, so if you're eating a normal diet you will lose weight.

You can follow a diet that consists of healthy food choices while you are pregnant and breastfeeding. So long as you get all the nutrients your body needs for you and your baby. Just don't follow any fad diets that cut things out of your normal daily food requirements such as protein or carbs.
