That can be quite frusterating. Just try your best to relax. If you start feeling those pains again and aren't sure if they are labor, go sit in the tub for a while and time the contractions. I'm sure you have heard over and over that baby will come when he/she is ready, but it's true. Use this time to your advantage. You won't be getting much alone time for yourself or your spouse once baby is born. Congratulations on your little bundle of joy. It will be over before you know it!

***ALSO in response to the castor oil comment, that can be quite dangerous as the baby can get that in his/her system as well and can choke on his/her own meconium (baby's first bowel movements) on the way out. Please do not use this method!***

As hard as these last stages are, don't wish them away. I was induced at 7:40pm on the 8th of June and my little girl was born at 12:20 am on the 9th of June.

This may seem like a dream to those of you who had long labours, but I bet you had a birthing partner with you, pain relief and a midwife to give you help and advice.I didn't. I felt contractions at 11:10 and was told by my midwife that I couldn't be in labour yet because I'd only been induced a short time ago. She sent me for a bath to ease the backache.

The next logical thought was, if I couldn't be in labour then I couldn't want to push, so I must need the loo. Well, actually I was in labour and pushing to go tore me so badly that the midwife who delivered wouldn't sew me up, I had to wait for a doctor and it took her 3 1/2 hours.

Are you still in a hurry? If you do have to be induced, the SECOND you feel something, INSIST the midwife checks you out, drag her by the hair if you have to! Nothing is more lonely than giving birth alone. Yes, I can have other children, but I can never have my first again.

I feel for you! I am only 35+4 but I have already started getting regular pains which come and go. I wonder if I am going to have to spend the next 6 weeks of my life wondering if every pain is labour!
First babies can engage 6 weeks before labour and a show can happen 4 weeks before labour.
But what it all means is that your body IS getting ready for it all and of course it will happen one way or another in the next few weeks. Every day will feel like an eternity, but you are nearly there and will have your baby very soon.
Good luck!

Wait until your due date exactly (if you haven't already had your baby), I went through the same as yourself my first child's head was engaged from 36 weeks and I had terrible false labour pains, but on my due date I took almost a bottle of Castor Oil then I had a hot bath (as hot as you can bear it) and after my bath I had a hot cup of tea. My baby was delivered after two hours labour the following morning. Please don't take the Castor oil before your due date as it will only give you severe cramps an diarrhoea.

This was the only method they had to induce people back in the 1940s' until they discovered the most modern drip inducing way.

Good Luck with your labour and birth I'll be thinking of you.

the pains you describe could be braxton hicks, the "practice" contractions these can be really uncomfortable but are perfectly normal and just getting your body ready for the real thing! the baby will only come when it is ready and it is a nightmare at the end of any pregnancy as you are so uncomfortable and the anticipation etc. I have had 5 children and towards the end i used to do lots of squats holding on to the chair, also lots of walking this can help at the end i wish you well and remember it will be any day now so relax, get plenty of rest and good luck x

i know precisely the type you experience. i'm 39 weeks+a million and that i can not wait to finally have this toddler. I even went and acquired a huge yoga ball to take a seat on. lost my mucus plug and characteristic braxton hicks like loopy. I unquestionably have been attempting nipple stimulation. You do it for 2 to 3 hours an afternoon for 5 minutes taking a fifteen minute wreck after each and every time. in case you have a handbook breast pump it particularly works the final because of the fact it simulates a toddler suckling that's what's going to make your uterus settlement. You vehicle meant to end for the time of a contraction so I end my time keeping besides and while it particularly is over I p.c.. up the place I left off in the 5 minutes. My dr jinx me besides she stated she figured my mucus plug replaced into long gone because of the fact there wasn't room between my cervix and water for there to be any yet once you think of it rather is long gone you have greater pop out she instructed me that the day gone by and BAM this morning greater lol. i've got confidence you discomfort and frustration. i assume all we are able to truly do is take a seat nicely squat around and wait. Your not on my own. good success

relax and enjoy this last few days (or few weeks at the most) it will come, take sometime out to read a book, have a bath, check your hospital bags, check baby's room, in other words anything to take your mind of the actual event and you will probably be surprised!
Have a nice walk while the sun is out (not too far from home though!) before you know it baby will be here and reading a book and having a relaxing bath will be a thing of the past for a long time! good luck

I went two weeks overdue with my daughter and tried everything. Walking a lot, hot curries and none of it worked. I ended up being induced in the end. But try to take your mind off it and not think about it as much and it'll just happen. Good luck

The first thing you need to do is RELAX. We know that women who fret about going into labour are less likely to do so. You could also try some breast and niple stimulation to release Oxytocin, (the labour hormone). Sex is always helpful if you can bear it. Semen is full of a hormone called prostaglandin which is ahormone that ripens the cervix. If you were to be induced we would insert a synthetic form of this hormone into your vagina, so sex is always worth a try. The thing to remember when you get the tightenings is to relax to enable them to become full contractions leading to labour. Simple analgesia (Paracetamol is safe) and warms baths help. Good luck.
