Just finished reading Mr Clarinet by Nick Stone and cannot stop saying good things about it. Does anyone have any recomendations about what crime/mystery I should read next?

Try Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series - start with the first one -The Black Ice and work your way forward. What makes Mr. Connelly remarkable in the world of crime fiction (I am a crime writer, too) is that he worked the Crime Beat for the LA Times for many years and he knows it inside and out. It most definitely shows in his work. Many of Harry's cases are based on real cases Connolly covered as a reporter. I think Trunk Music is my favorite, but to really understand and know Harry, you should read the series from the beginning. Harry definitely grows and changes as the series goes on. His prose is brilliant and his character Harry is your irreverent, always on the brink of being fired cop who doesnt always play by the book. He also has several stand alone books - The Poet, Void Moon, Bloodwork, Chasing the Dime, but it is the Harry Bosch books that truly show Mr. Connelly at his best. Pax - C.

Try these,

Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
Red Dragon by Thomas Harris

the Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver
along with it's sequels, The Coffin Dancer and the Empty Chair (plus more)
The Blue Nowhere, also by Jeffery Deaver

Kiss the Girls and its sequel Along Came A Spider, both by James Patterson
First to Die by James Patterson

Agatha Christie stuff,

Edgar Allan Poe - the Pit and the Pendulum and The Murders of Rue Morgue.

Kathy Reichs - Break No Bones

The Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell

OK there's way too many to mention, so ill leave it there.

My favorite crime book is called Hard Evidence. It is not a novel, but a description of each evidence specialist in the FBI and how/what they do. The book sites famous crimes like Dhamer, Kennedy assasination, Atlanta child killings.
You can buy it off Amazon for <$5 hardcover. I switched to true crime/reference when the novels became too predictable. It is absolutely astonishing the evidence they can gather.

You can go for Nancy Drew. It deals with both crime and mystery, how much as I know.
