I'm almost positive its y=#x -2, because -2 is the y intercept(just mentioning that in case I'm wrong). But I'm stock between the answer being y= -3x -2 or y = 3x -2.

You're right that the equation is y = mx-2, for the reason you give.

Substitute the other point's coordinates in the equation and you will have your answer: 0 = m*(-0.5) - 2
which gives 2 = m*(-0.5)
and
-4 = m
so the equation is y = -4x -2.

y=mx+b m is rise/run y2-y1 / x2-x1 -2 - 0 / 0 - - .5
-2/.5 -4
y= -4x -2 thats the answer and you can just test with both points

The general equation for any line is y=ax+b
(-0.5,0) is 1 point on the line,then 0=a*(-0.5)+b
-->0.5*a=b(1)
(0,-2) is 1 point on the line,then -2=a*0+b
-->b=-2
(1):b=0.5*a-->a=b/0.5=2*b=2*(-2)=-4

The answer is y=-4x-2

m = - 4
Line passes thro` (-5, 0)
y - 0 = (- 4).(x + 5)
y = - 4.x - 2
Tip
Show decimal as 0.5 rather than .5 as it is easy to miss the decimal point when written as .5. (As I did!)

the equation is:
y=m(x-x1)+y1 or y-y1=m(x-x1)
m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
(-1/2,0)→(x1,y1) and (0,-2)→(x2,y2)
then,
m=(-2-0)/(0-*-1/2) or m=-4
y=-4(x-*-1/2)+0
y=-4(x+1/2)
y=-4x-2
or
y+2=-4x
