Hi Peixian,
The most important price factor is the processor - and the deciding factor for the processor is the kind of applications you use.
But your budgets can get you stuff thats ALMOST top of the line
a 1 DIMM 1 Gb RAM will cost you around $ 80-110 depending on the make and the speed (and latency). You can get DDR2 RAMs from 400 to 1000 MHz. The faster the RAM, the greater the utilization of good processors
I'd recommend a 2 Gb RAM (2 x 1Gb) @ 667 MHz - thats should be bring out the best form any good processor

For 1500 bucks you can go for Dells XPS range - but I'd recommend going for an HP dv6000t, with a T5500 processor, 2 Gb RAM, atleast 160 Gb HDD, stick to Windows XP if you can, and get a good video card (GeForce 7900 would be good enough)

You'll get HP and Dell laptops right from $1000 - look out for the right CPU

sreen size is a big factor considering it is the most expensive part of a lappy

u can buy a great laptop for that kinda money

i have a dell, it works great, not sure which model, lol
