Also learning when to inhale and when to exhale contributes to the quality of the movement. For example:
If you exhale when you do a plié or grand plié and inhale when you stretch again your knees, it will give a supple quality to the movement. Same thing when you jump, do pirouettes or balance. inhaling is always when the movement goes up, exhaling when you go down.

A good comparison is scuba-diving. When you are learning to scuba dive, the problem is controlling breathing (I know this I went through it). When the oxygen goes out from your lungs, you sink to the bottom of the ocean, when you breath too much you go to the surface. After learning to scuba dive, I applied the same method to dancing, with very, very good results.

For example, try to exhale when you want to jump, the body becomes like a rock. So yes learning to breath properly and at the right time enhances the quality of the movement.

For any physical activity proper breathing is a key component of success. The cells of your muscles require oxygen to perform optimally, so an efficient intake of oxygen and output of carbon dioxide is essential for strength and endurance. And, probably the most important muscle of all - the brain - operates at it's best when fully oxygenated, which results in better concentration and relaxation. Also, the lungs and diaphram are the largest (and most observable) parts of the torso. Breath control aids in coordinating the movements that either originate or flow through the torso. In both singing and acting breath control helps in both projection and in sustaining a note.

breathing is important for your heart rate, your blood sugar could go drasticly down and you could easily faint if you don't breathe properly, in voice it's important because you just have to find the right moment to breathe because if u miss it and have too little breath you could mess up something =]
hope i was useful =]
