So my mother in law tells me that because we have to move into a new apartment the day after i have my baby i shouldnt let my baby see any man with sweat on their body or else she will get asthma, and i didnt believe her i just thought it was a crazy wives tale and now shes getting sniffles and her breathing is weird and alot of my friends are telling me she looks like she could have asthma cause their babys did the same thing and they have it, and now im thinking maybe old wive tales are true, and then my mother in law said to take my husbands sweat soaked tshirt and wrap her in it for a few hours, and it will cure it, and now im just saying that is crazyyyyy has anyone ever heard a wive tale about this??

Asthma is an allergy and is triggered by something. The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them. Common triggers are smoke, dust, mold, mildew, plants, dust mites, pets and grass/weeds.
If you can not figure our your triggers, you may need to see an allergist and have allergy screening done. This may point out your triggers.
The National Asthma Prevention Program and the Expert Panel of Diagnosis and Management of Asthma both agree if you have to use a prescription inhaler such as albuterol more then two time per week, your asthma is NOT in control and you will need a prescription controller medication.
Controller medications are steroids (Asthmacort Asthmanex, Flovent, Pulmocort), Leukotriene modifier (Singulair, Aculade, Zyflo) or mast cell stabilizers (Cromolyn sodium, Intal, Tilade).
You may want to talk to your doctor about several strong controller medications and maybe Xolair shots.
If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

Please, this is ridiculous. there are a lot of reasons why a baby could have the sniffles. I don't believe it is asthma before you explored the possibility she just has a minor cold. And if asthma could be cured by wrapping anyone in a sweaty shirt there would be no one left with asthma.... really, sometimes there is truth in old-wives tales, but that has to come from experience, not hear say or beliefs. So use your mind to determine if there is any possible truth in it. I think a sweaty shirt will just make your baby unhappy because it smells. he or she would love better to be held by mommy than wrapped in sweat. ugh! just keep him/her warm and consult a doctor if you don't trust his/her sniffles.

there is probably a family history of asthma in the family, that would be the only explanation. Would you like to be wrapped in someones sweaty shirt. Just take your baby to a doctor.

OMG that is the funniest thing I have ever heard! I've never heard that one but geez its funny. Did you try what your mother in law said tho? I can't imagine the rash a sweaty shirt would give your baby. I'm sure her pediatrician will get a kick from that story too LOL!
Congrats on your little girl!

I have never heard that old wives tale. However I do know for a fact that down (feather) pillows and comforters cause asthma attacks even in people that do not have asthma. So if you have any in your house you may want to get rid of them.

I know this is not true. My daughter NEVER saw a man with sweat on their body and she has asthma. She inherited it from ME, because I have asthma. That's a crazy one, talk to your doctor about it at you daughter's next appointment.

My brother is an asthmatic and after ten years his allergies has shown no sign of having better. He has been to numerous docs yet they did no longer help plenty. in case you like a shown, all-organic thank you to treatment your allergies, devoid of having to pay for ineffective drugs with risky facet-consequences, then that's the main mandatory web site you will ever examine.
