It depends on your current income, savings and your needs.
All you need is a really good financial advisor who will be able to help you plan for your retirement.
Your advisor will take into consideration your -
1) Insurance coverage (which will be your wealth foundation - so that in cases of emergency your savings will not be wiped out).
2) Current assets and liability
3) Current expanses and financial responsibilities
4) Your investments
Once your FA has these info, he'she will be able to give a gauge as to when you'll be financially independent.
The company that is handling my financial matters is IPP:
http://www.ippfa.com/
And my advisor's name is Foo Biao Da.
I'm located in Singapore but I believe that IPP has offices worldwide.
Hope this helps.

Well that is an answer that no one can give you. You can only give your self. It all depends on what kind of a job you have, what your bills are, do you have any savings and are you a shopoholic? Are you married with any kids. Well because right there, I can tell you that the answer would be NEVER...lol. The best advise i can give you is to get a financial adviser and set a goal. Its never too late. Good luck!!!

At 35 you still have a lot of years ahead of you. Franchise a known brand. Use a part of your life savings for the capital. In the 10 - 15 yrs of hardwork, I believe you can make it. But if plan to stay employed all your life (unless you're the VP or CEO) then you'll always be dependent.

only when you make a strong financial plan and FOLLOW IT. Seriously....I work for Primerica in Massachusetts and we do a financial anaylisis for free (the only company that does.)Basically it is a way to look at all your finances and bills and map out a plan to pay them off SOONER. My advice is to find a Primerica in your area and work with an agent there to help get you financially independent. It's an amazing thing that they do for people....so many people have told me this!

When you have no debt and you have enough assets to take care of yourself. Either that or you need to have so much money you can never spend it all and we've never seen anybody like that.
We have a former client that got $700,000 annually from a trust. She was going bankrupt because she spent so much money. She dropped $1,000 one afternoon on underwear!
