The only reason we haven't pulled out yet is because we know that as soon as we leave, the whole country will descend into a genocidal frenzy that will make the last few years look like the good old days.

And we will get the blame.

Shias will slaughter Sunnis and Sunnis will slaughter Shias and the Kurds will urge both sides on. Right or wrong, we started this mess and we are now obligated to finish it.

If and when (its a big "if" too), the Iraqi "government" gets to the point where it can keep the peace, then we can leave. The problem is that too many Iraqis urged on by religious fanatics and the lack of beer don't want peace...they want death and destruction.

Its definitely FUBAR.

The bottom line though is that while every American life is worth, oh, at least a few hundred Iraqi lives... 3,300 casualties can't hold a candle to Vietnam or Korea.

As tough as it is, a successful outcome for Iraq is the only thing that will bring real meaning to the sacrifice our troops have already made.

It's time the troops come home only because I believe our role has been completed. Saddam is dead. The Iraqis have established their government and have had 3 democratically held elections. The sectarian violence will continue with or without us, and building their military and police forces are a task of that nation, not our's. They don't want us there. It's time to come home.
