They don't know any better. Yes, there are a lot of things for children to do, and in the early nineties MGM built a theme park and Vegas was actually promoted as a family vacation. People don't realize you have to walk through casinos to get to a lot of the buffets, etc. Parents also want to have it all and have fun too and it just isn't possible, unless they bring a full time babysitter (even for teenagers). Nowadays Las Vegas is NOT being promoted as "family friendly." It is an adult destination.

Apparently some of the responders on this site live in very small fragile boxes. Turn on the television, you see the good, bad, and ugly in this world. Vegas has sunshine, awesome pools, great food, amazing stores. Okay so your telling me no where else in this world, other than Vegas, has cigarette smoke, hookers, gamblers, drunks...my ***. Okay so I live in small town USA. We have hookers that stand less than 3 blocks from the police station. When we went to Vegas, I didn't see any hookers. Drunks are at every Applebees, Outback, Olive Garden, Denny's, etc...in the Nation. Gambling is available on almost every Indian Reservation in the United States. So don't be pointing fingers, just because you disagree with what people choose to do, it doesn't give you the right to judge. Unless you want people to decide whether your choices are always appropriate and acceptable, don't judge others.

Circus Circus is a great place to bring kids, let' not forget Hoover dam and some other nice things on the strip. Vegas is a vacation for all the family. The huge arcad accross from NY NY, Treasure Island pirate show is cool.
The city is working hard on keeping all that other stuff to a minimum.
If I had kids I would want them back at the room by 8-9pm. When all the us freaks come out..

I have taken my daughter to vegas several times, she loves it there, circus circus , all the shops, hoover dam..i liked that more than her, but she liked the pirate show, volcano, and the bellagio....I do nto take her with me when i go gambling, and as for hookers she coudl see more around the city where we live...vegas has become a more family oriented city, this is why you canot pass out porn on the streets any more and they fixed up the downtown area....for all of the poeple who are complaining, when was the last time you were there and if so were you there 10 or 15 years ago...thats when it was bad

If you live in a Puritan type environment, yeah, I could see why this would not make sense to you. If you live in the REAL world, you would realize that Vegas and kids do mix. Smoking and drinking are not crimes. If responsible people want to go to Vegas, and take their kids, it's no worse than going downtown Detroit, LA, or San Francisco, which all have objectionable behavior. My family and I went there, and we spent the days looking at all the free exhibits, and the eves going to the rides at the casino's. We had a blast, spent lots of money on family things, and did minimal gambling. The pools are beautiful there for families. So, people negative opinions, open your minds, life is what it is. You don't have to go to Vegas to see weird behavior, and you don't have to go to Vegas to expose your kids to LIFE. Lighten up! My kids are all just fine. They are all older teens and young adults, and very responsible. None drink, none like to gamble. So, I don't think we did them any harm.

Where the hell do you go to see hookers!! I go to Vegas all the time and never seen a hooker on the strip! I can tell you one thing and that is your kids will see more hookers in the big city then they would ever see in Vegas! Prostitution is legal in Vegas and have places to go for that but not on the strip! They see cigarette smokers and drinkers in a restaurant. I have taken my kids to Vegas many times and their are plenty of things for them to do there. Yes they have to walk through a casino sometimes but it's no different then walking through a arcade. Everybody who think it's crazy to bring your children to Vegas is planning on doing crazy things in Vegas themselves. I don't go to Vegas to do wild things like pick up hookers, go night clubbing, gamble all night or get drunk.

I think Las Vegas is trying to become more Family friendly, and people love Vegas! They don't want to leave their kids at home, so they take them along...there are other things to do other than gamble, but I , like you feel that Vegas is for adults! It used to be a place you could vacation without strollers and crying, tired children....but things change and we have to change with them.....but my vote is leave the kids at home and enjoy yourself in Vegas! Grandma and Grampa ought to be good for a day or two or three....which is a good length of time for a short vacation for mom and dad.....but I've been there and had to take my son along, believe me...we just stayed about 3 or 4 hours, and took turns watching him, it cut down on our fun because of the worry and little for him to do...now he's 23, and truly not much of a gambler.....but he went for his 21st birthday and had a ball! I believe it's the best place anybody can turn 21!

there are a lot of family friendly things in las vegas. Circus Circus appeals to the family, The Pirate Show, The Medieval Hotel, The pyramid. There are rides and shows and things to eat. There is a lot more to Las Vegas than the normal vices we associate it with.

I ask that every time I go out there. Makes no sense. I guess mommy and daddy want their little ones to grow up to be one of those people handing out flyers on the strip.

They really don't have a lot of sense. And the casinos are two-faced, because they say that kids aren't allowed in there, but routinely allow them to stroll right through the slot machines and by the table games.
This is not right, and parents today are about as dumb as they come.
