Not all of them of course. But a substantial number of blacks complain about not getting respect, but then go and act like ghetto savages.

Although I don't like your question, I'll humor you...

I'd like to start out by saying that they're not savages. Now, people have to be held accountable for their own actions. There are people in every race that are wild, commit crimes, make themselves look bad, etc. I'm extremely embarrased for Caucasians everytime I see some young punk with red hair and a mohawk and like, 100 body piercings. Or they discover yet another meth lab. Or white people outside with flip-flops and a short sleeve shirt when its snowing. Or on the dancefloor or trying to clap on the downbeat. I'm being humorous, but I hope you get my point. Whites do some pretty bad things too. It is hard to take immaturity seriously, on any level. However, you cannot hold an entire race of people accountable for the actions of the 'savages' that you're referring to.

First of all, there are 'ghetto' or street acting people in every race. The problem is that people associate the 'ghetto-ish' culture synonomously with being black. It simply is not so. Maybe it is because of the overwhelming majority of Af-Ams that live in the inner-city. Maybe it is because of the images that we see on BET for example, or generally in the hip-hop culture. Trust me, I know all of the negative statistics about my race, and how people like to accenuate the negative, (and I do appreciate your understanding that it is not everyone) but there are so many positive things that people do not want to hear about.

In the defense of some of my people, no, the MAN is not holding us down anymore, but nor is the playing field fair. Many young black Americans lack the encouragement and motivation they need to come out of the 'ghetto' so they fall victim to a lifestyle that I think you are trying to describe. You are a product of your environment. Please do not be fooled into thinking that school systems are fair. I'm not interested in playing the blame game as to who's fault it is that they're unequal, but the fact of the matter is, they are not. The quality of education is not always the same in predominately black schools/districts as it is in white schools/districts. Sometimes its not even close.

Now, I am assuming you are Caucasian, but really I don't know. In your question, who is US? Caucasians? Non-black Americans? That makes it sound like African Americans need to earn others' respect. That feeling alone can put people on the defense. You should respect someone regardless of whether you agree or disagree with their culture of actions, because you are respecting the INDIVIDUAL. Your question, although only 3 sentences says so much. The separation that is impled by Us vs. Them. The idea of 'blacks' always complaining. 'savages'? Have you seen Pocahontas? It might teach you a thing or two.

All in all, like I said, I hear you, I really do. But, just try to put yourself in someone else's shoes and view the same equation. You might have some disdain for THEM too.

I do not respect anyone , no matter their race unless they earn my respect , If I am approached by anyone , they approach me in a respectable manner , I offer them the same , If anyone approaches me of any color with all of this " yo , yo, yo " bullsh*t I tell them to fk off .. Respect is earned not given , No matter what race , and now days the way whites , hispanic , blacks ,and others are acting so ghetto , they think it is cool to be all gangsta , do not realize how stupid they act , nor do they know what they are doing ..for example the baggy pants with boxers showing , is the way inmates wear their pants when they are available to receive loads in the rear.. all of them make themselves look so uneducated , and ridicules..not just one race ,but all races that think it is cool to look like an inmate on a booty call , AND nobody will ever demand respect from me , they will get my foot in their *ss , I give it where it is earned .

That question has been addressed by Bill Cosby. I think if others follow suit, they will have the potential to bring the racial issue closer to balance than it ever has been.

On a side note, I work in Hollywood, which is one of the phoniest places on the planet. The people with whom I come in contact are the most racist people I know, constantly making comments about the ghetto-type black, telling black jokes, etc. Yet one person said that she wouldn't move to Atlanta, in one conversation, because it was segregated. SEGREGATED? LA is the most segregated city I have ever been in. Well, you see black people in Hollywood, but usually if they are homeless or gay. I have been on major video shoots with enormous casts, yet no black workers (and not a recycling bucket to be seen). Yet, the message from Hollywood is that conservatives are racists and liberals love everyone and they are so "diverse."

Sorry for the rant.

For those who use the racism card he did not generalized.

I respect the Islam Nation because they seem to act in a manner that I would respect. I found others who have deep rooted heritage with the Church as well. I found that there is a group that is moving the other direction. Materialism and a lack of education is a point of pride. I blame Rap music that glorify gang culture and having money as the goal. I believe there is a sense of hopelessness that they feel they can't get respect through the proper means, they would create fear instead. Fear is a type of respect, although not one of the better ones. I was told the main problem in African American community is a lack of true leadership. MY fear is that if we ask African American School kids to name famous African Americans that is living, they will say 50 cents and snoop dog and few would mention, Colin Powell, Condaleeza Rice, Obama, and other better notables.

Everybody wants and rightfully deserves respect. This is a touchy subject and I would hate to offend anyone..But I believe because of the long and disheartening history of slavery; being stripped of their rights, manhood, and freedom, this so called "ghetto" is simply a byproduct of that entity. I mean...400 years of slavery...that's a long time and you can't expect not to have a negative aftermath. Of course there are always examples of those that prevail..regardless of what kind of negative environment they grow up in..but unless you're African American, you'll never understand.

Is that anything like all the white people who live in trailers, ramshackle unkempt homes, and never finish school, living off the government and talking trash about minorities so they can feel better about themselves? Not all of them are like that, but a substantial number are and it is where the term "white trash" comes from. I live in Indiana, caught in a middle ground between the areas of white ghetto and the black ghetto of Gary. I see just as many of these fools, no more deserving of respect, as I do black folks who "act so ghetto." I grew up in an area so racist it was ridiculous. As I got older I started seeing the deficiencies in the opposite number of whites, also seeing those types were the first ones to have racist ideals. Respect is something to be earned, and where I come from, it's clear it has nothing to do with color.

Who are you to label "ghetto"? Each person has their own individual way of being and should be left alone with that. I wouldn't label someone with a southern accent a redneck. About the fashion and music, it's a cultural thing. Each person, no matter their skin color associates with those that are within their culture. What it seems like you're asking is why "they" (So offensive..) don't act "white", correct? To be honest, I think that is such an ignorant question, why don't you ask an African American if you're so curious, as opposed to hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet?

because they are gangster wannabe idiots. not all of us are lacking respect and good manners though. a lot of us were raised right and got good educations. being part black myself, i see some of these ghetto carbon copies and it makes me sick. i'm sure dr. martin luther king jr. didnt die for this. guys wearing their pants sagging to the ground and they wear those ignorant do rags with those big retarded caps. all the girls wear their ridiculously tight bottoms and tops and they want to look just alike. their grammar alone is terribly repulsive - about a million swear words in each sentence. everywhere you turn it's 'n**** this and n**** that'. and then they want to stand on the corners and act so tough, making fun of those who arent rocking the latest fashions and who didnt spend 300 dollars on a pair of shoes. they are ghetto and, not saying i'm better than anyone because i'm not, its not cool to see people act like that. some of the white kids want to go around and copy this behavior too. i don't know why these people do it - maybe they think it's cool. soak up a little BET and now it's time to act like the hoodlums and whores in the movies and videos. this is what i call not having a brain of your own.
