Ok not only is the castor oil the grossest thing you could possibly drink it will generally induce vomiting and severe diarrhea. It can also make the baby have diarrhea. It is the diarrhea (pushing and loosening of the bowels) that may possibly further the labor but what a gross way to go about it. This diarrhea could last into your labor and you could be having bowel movements long after you take it which means all over the delivery bed, yourself dr and nurses!
Try walking, dancing, having sex, if you are involved in a relationship do something to take your mind off the impending birth go to dinner and a movie as once the baby is born your life will be somewhat limited for awhile.

Hi,
I am assuming you mean castor oil? Castor oil is a 'not very popular' old fashioned remedy and was taken to help constipation and stomach pains.
If you don't have either of these you certainly won't need to take the oil. It is pretty unpleasant to taste and there are many better and more pleasant medications you could get from your pharmacy.
No woman, pregnant or not (though especially when pregnant) should indiscriminately take any medication-many apparently harmless medications or treatments can afect the development of your baby and some (pennyroyal, for instance, can cause miscarraige)
One thing that CAN help through pregnancy is to use oil to gently massage into the stomach area daily. Many oils are suitable (but always check with an aromatherapist if using essential oil mixes) even ordinary olive oil (no need to use extra virgin, is there?) this will give elasticity to the skin and stretch marks can be avoided.
It also feels good, especially if you can get your partner to help with the massage.
Good luck and avoid the castor oil...ugh!

yes, I heard that it doesn't work for everyone i was 38 weeks pregnant and i walked alot and i walked up and down stairs alot hoping that i would go into labor, but nothing happened then my mom had suggested i drink Castro oil. I did i had to go to the bathroom for about the first hour then after that i went into labor(Yes). my delivery went OK i didn't have any-runs when i was delivering. Now i have a healthy baby boy I do think if you could hold out and wait to the baby comes than do that, but if you are miserable, then you should go ahead and help the baby into this world. Good luck

NO WAY!
My sister made me drink this with my first child. It not only made me vomit and have diarrehea for 2 days but it did nothing to bring on my labour. Then when my son was finally born days later...he had been in distress (I am pretty sure from the castor oil) and had pooed inside of me.
It is supposed to work by making your bowels spasm which is apparently supposed to stimulate your uterus to start contracting. It didn't work for me or my younger sister who also had the castor oil treatment from our loving older sister!
Just wait...it won't be too much longer and you will meet your little baby without going through the horrors of castor oil. Still makes me gag today 13 years afterwards just thinking of the taste!!!!! Gross!

No No No No and No. It just gives you diareah and makes your belly contract. Then you might go into labor or just be on the toilet all night. Not to mention it could cause the baby to have a bowel movement inside your body. That is toxic and could kill the baby if it is injested while giving birth.
The baby will come when it is ready. The only reason you hear stories about spicy food or walking or sex is because the baby was ready to come anyway. They just happened to go into labor while doing it or right after. Take your time. It will come.

I think you mean "Castor Oil". There is no science that proves that castor oil will help induce labor. As there is no science that proves hot and spicy foods, or going for a bumpy car ride will induce labor. They only thing proven to be effective in inducing labor is a potocin drip

I have heard a lot of 'Old Wives' Tales'.
Think this might be one.
I would not take anything on your own without consulting Dr. first.
When I was little my grandparents raised me. When I had chest colds, whooping cough, measles, mumps, etc. my grandmother put vicks all over my chest and then soaked a rag in coal oil and layed it on my chest. It's a wonder some of it didn't kill me.
So it is just bull. Don't try anything to try to induce your own labor! See Dr. Take care.

I tried everything with my daughter and nothing happened. I drank raspberry tea, castor oil, even the nurse at the hospital suggested a small glass of wine. NOT A DARN THING! Heck, even the pitosin didn't want to work. She just didn't want to come out.

NO! I tryed this w/ my 1st son and the only place it got me was on the toilet all night long, and severe cramping from going so much. It isn't effective. You should just be patient and wait. If you are that impatient to start labor try something thats safe and a little more effective (also something that tastes better) Raspberry tea seems to work well!

I have, I dont recomend it. It can cause some big problems!!! I drank a bunch of it to induce labor with my first son and I had the worst diareaha i have ever had in my life. It did put me in labor with my 2nd son, 27 1/2 hours of it and a c-section later. They come when they are ready. Let nature do its thing.
