Any one or other of the above answers may be helpful, but it really depends on personal preference, since the same method may not work for all. I can only add to the above answers :
try simple breathing excercises in front of an open window about 5-10 minutes before u go to bed......works like a charm for me. Otherwise, reading in bed or a cup of hot chocolate r my only other alternatives.....nothing else works on me.Try it out for a couple of nights.....maybe it'll work out for u 2....oh, & just for ur information,3 or 4 hours can be quite enough for the vital mental abilities of an adult to be refreshed, provided it's a really deep sleep......sleep is qualitative, not necessarily quantitative.......so stop worrying.

Lie in bed and play with/rub fresh or dried lavender until the scent is all around you. Can't see form your profile what gender you are, but if you are female, take two slow-release tablets of magnesium 3/4 of an hour before going to sleep, works like a bomb, but does not work for males.

Take baths. Generally, a hot bath (above 38℃) quiets or soothes the body by slowing down the activity of the internal organs, and helps to relieve tense muscles and anxiety from stress. On the other hand, if you are feeling tired and stressed, you might try a warm (36 to 38℃) bath or shower and followed by a short cold shower, as the cold helps to stimulate internal activity as well as the mind.
Or herbal baths

Do you have the habit of sleeping in day time.If yes, dont sleep for a day or two and see. even if you are scared of some school activity like pending home work etc than also you might not be able to sleep. If there is no other problem than get your self checked by a doctor to rule out any underlying cause.

Firstly feel your self relax and do not stick to the idea ''I ca not sleep ).Because everything relating with body is psychological.Remember the law of attraction .Try to think that you need to sleep .whatever you want it will come back to you .Then you may try the secondary remedies .A warm shower , a glass of milk , reading a book ,some sedative treatments will help you to fall a good sleep .but firstly set your mind relax.
Lastly try to change the decoration of your bed room.something in your room may disturbs you or alert you and keep you awake .Try to find it and discard it immediately

Keep a jar of chopped up onion next to your bed(with the lid on). When you feel your mind racing in an insomnic manner, open the jar and breathe deeply through your nose.
Its not very pleasant, but the rank smell clears your mind of thought for a while and gives your brain the opportunity to switch off.
I found this worked for me and has also worked for other people ive told

I suffer from insomnia too. Here are some things that make a big difference for me. Hope it helps!
1. Work out hard in the morning. Alternate between cardio and strength training every other day.
2. Cut out caffine, suger, over-processed foods and simple carbs. Don't eat meat within five hours of bedtime.
3. Just before you close yourself in your room for the night, drink cinnamon tea. You can buy it at a health store, or just boil cinnamon sticks and some cocoa powder in a cup of water. This tastes realy good with cream or honey. DO NOT SWEETEN IT WITH SUGAR or you will be up all night.
4.Have a simple yoga routing to do just before bed. Do not try to "work out" here. Just do streatches and try to relax. Play Soft instumental music in the background. My favorite is the panpipe and gentle drums. Dim the lights, maybe burn lavendar or cinnomon incense. The goal here is to have a soft, relaxing atmosphere.
5. Learn to meditate before bed. Sit in a chair or cross-legged on the floor. Keep your spine straight. Slowly relax your whole body. Concentrate on your own breathing. Follow your breath until you are compleately relaxed. Then repeat a one syllable word either aloud or in your mind. The classic is "Ommm" but do whatever has meaning for you. Maybe try "love" "joy" "peace" or "calm".
6. Keep a clean room. A messy room adds to the clutter your brain had to deal with. Always make your bed in the morning, and try leaving lavendar, either dried poporii in a pouch, of fresh sprigs on your pillow. Lavendar relaxes the body and calms the mind. Make sure to let pleanty freash air into your room.
7. Hot steamy showers or baths before bed can help you fall asleep fast and stay asleep.
Just try to controll stress and whatever is bothering you, do not let it in your room. Make your room a safe haven. Keep distractions to a minimum and practice "turning yourself off" to the world and whatever stresses you out. At night, it doesn't exist. Whatever it is can wait until morning.
Hope this is helpful to you!

Being so busy can save your innovations going at nighttime. you need to thoroughly close down.. this implies bypass into your mattress room the place that is thoroughly calm and non violent and set some regulations so as that not greater disturbances (till an emergency) could be made. That way you recognize that your day is completed as quickly as you bypass into the room.. and that could calm you down and relax your innovations. you need to end your nightly workouts and known jobs abt an hour before you desire to bypass to sleep. That way you may relax.. i do no longer advise watching television by way of fact it may suck you in and save you from turning off the tube or being distracted. analyzing can artwork although.
