Seriously, if you are speaking of great American southerners in history - there are tons of them, but here are just a few:

Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone, Henry Clay, Samuel Houston, Andrew Jackson, Stonewall Jackson, Thomas Jefferson, James K. Polk, Will Rogers, Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee,
Eliza Lucas Pinckney, Margaret Mitchell, Booker T. Washington, Zora Neale Hurston.

These were just off the top of my head. I assume you are speaking historically. If your speaking currently, that a whole new list. Hope this helps you.
