to reduce drag in the water. if they were loose it would flap in the water creating vibration thus creating drag.

if it was not tight you would work much harder for the same distance.

The competition swimming suits are so tight because it will make you go faster since the material of the swim suit let the water smoothly pass through it.

For obvious reason. Think about it, if you've ever been in the water with your clothes on, it's quite a challenge to move around, compared to being in a swim suit. So the tighter the suit, and less drag. It's the same concept when you see sprinters on the track. Do you ever see a world class sprinter running in basketball shorts? No, it's too much drag. It slows them down. Tighter suit = faster time.

The swimming suits are glued at the bottom to keep it from moving during competition.

If they weren't they would "drag" in the water and slow a swimmer down. A world record could be the difference of .001 of a second.

All the fastest fish have really slick compact scales. Only those stupid clown fish have big billowing swim suits and man are they slow!

That way they don't have to shave. In the original Olympics everyone competed naked. Now a days everyone wants to keep resistance as low as possible, thus not having to deal with any hanging body parts
