They probably thought it would be a clever and memorable design that would set apart their brand. It definitely does not make the yogurt taste better. I go for Mountain High!

I like the fact that it is a more stable, less "tippy" configuration than some other shapes--so if you leave a metal spoon in it between bites, it doesn't fall over.
But since you are asking this question under the Earth Sciences section, for some reason, I'll also add that when you are done, you can recycle the cups by using them as the bases for little volcano models --though you'd need to pile some clay around them to make the shape more accurate.
