volume is turned up. it not on mute the speakers are working but i still get no audio

Your primary volume may be up, but your channels may not be. Try going into your volume controls (from the Start Menu --> Accessories --> Entertainment -- Volume Controls) and you'll find separate channels - like "Wave," "Midi," "Synth," "CD player," etc. Try turning those up one by one.

First of all, right-click on the little speaker in the system tray, open Volume Control and see if everything is turned on.

If you already did this, then try reinstalling the audio drivers for your sound card.
