Why do people say "Don't repeat the name of a past one?"?

Like if someone's mom died and you ask what her name was, why do people say "I Cant say."

- not all, just some???

I personally never heard of it, but by the sounds of things, it's a superstition that they believe in for some reason...maybe they think that the person won't rest if one calls their name. I work at a hospital, and when people pass on there, we have to open the window of the room they died in so the soul can leave the room...and thats superstition as well.
