Why shouldn't it be allowed? It is a pitch that is possible without the use of an illegal substance so there is no reason it shouldn't be allowed. It is somewhat misleading anyways, manty stories of the pitch are false and make it seem like much more then it is. It is not like he is throwing a spit ball, it is a legal pitch and there is nothing wrong with it.

the "gyroball" is basically the same pitch that several pitchers in the 70's threw by the name of a "screwball". The screwball went away because it was determined that it was too difficult to teach the proper way to throw it without damaging the elbow (it's kind of an inside out delivery). The way that Matsuzaka throws it is very unique in the delivery and adds to the deception (most batters who have seen it thought it was a changeup initially). But to answer the actual question, there's nothing foreign used to produce the motion on the ball so therefore, there's nothing illegal about it.

the "gyroball" pitch that everyone expected from matsuzuka has turned out to be nothing but an urban myth. He just has the ability to put more spin on changeups, curveballs, sliders etc.. he doesnt actually pitch some wacky spinning pitch that everyone raved about. So, even if it was allowed i doubt any pitcher could use it.

The "Gyroball" is just a pitch that is suppose to look like a breaking ball, but not break...basically act like a fastball. It's not like he's lubing it up with vasoline or spitting on it. So yes, it should be allowed.

Throw it up there and then watch it go about 500 feet in the other direction.
