depends on quality of recording, either low or high quality. My DVD player will usually hold about an hour on HQ and up to 6 hours LQ...and thats on a single sided 4.7GB disc, some dics hold more.

Regarding the response from "Norm," on using the computer program.....I can do the same with my new Panasonic DVD recorder. In other words, I can set it to "Flexible" mode and it will record a 2 hour 20 minute program using the whole disc and at best quality. So....the amount of hours you can record actually has to take into account the features on your own system. I can record a really high quality picture for one hour; a standard picture (not much difference) for 2 hours; and then there are settings for 4 hours or 6 hours, each losing quality the more you cram onto the disc.

Hi Rach75,

You can go to 6 hours but the degradation of quality is noticeable. I use two hours for best quality unless I am recording a movie over two hours then I switch to four hours.

On the computer I use Clone DVD and it compresses the movie to just the size necessary to fit so the reduction in quality for say two hours 20 minutes is very slight because it uses the entire disk where my Sony recorder must be set in four hour mode and it then uses only a bit more then half the disk so the quality suffers.

i depends on video and audio bitrate...

i managed to craM the 26 episodes of Trigun (roughly 11-12 hrs) with animated menus on one DualLayer DVD-R i think that'd be about 6hrs on a regular DVD-R...... quality isn't the best though. kinda close to VCD.. it was watchable
