I have a 1989 Jeep Cherokee that i just bought. it runs good and all the interior lights work. But, the headlights and brake lights won't come on. even the turn signals work. Please help!

Double check all the fuses. sounds to me like there is a bad fuse. if the fuses check out it may be a short in the harness that is causing problem. You will have to chase the lines and see where the problem lies. but I'm willing to bet it's just a fuse.

If the lamps are not burned out, and your fuses are all good,
the problem is most likely the switch. Even then, you might get lucky and just have to give the plug and switch connection a good cleaning. Sometimes a single burned out bulb will cause the others not to work, so don't just replace them all until you check them all. Also, you will want to check and clean the plug at each headlight and tail light.

check fuses. Headlights are often a breaker for safety. You might need to check the switch and headlight relay.
If the fuse is ok for the brakes , check the brake switch at the pedal, and check the bulbs themselves.
If you got the car from a dealer in the USA the dealer should fix it . Its illegal to sell a used car with those defects unless disclosed. Its actually illegal for you to drive it in that condition .

you check the fuses? Usually the headlights and brakelights fuses are under the hood, though sometimes they can be below the dash. If they both just stopped working all at once, out of nowhere, the fuse would be my first place to check.

PROBABLY A FUSE IF ALL OF THEM WENT OUT AT ONCE. IF THAT DOSE'NT WORK BY ONE TEST BULD TO SEE. ITS POSSIBLE THAT ALL BULBS BURNED OUT AT ONCE BUT NOT LIKLEY, EXCPECIALLY IF YOU HAVENT DONE WORK IN A WHILE. ONCE MY DAD TRIED AT ADD ANOTHER CIRCUIT IN OUT HOUSE. HE CROSSED THE WIRES AND EVERTHING THAT WOSENT SURGE PROTECTED BROKE. EVERY LIGHT BULB POPPED!
