Where do I start? Well, not like that first answerer. She's probably part of the problem (assuming she's even in the USA. If not, I hope she enjoys whatever "perfect" country she's living in)

Personally, I sort of draw a parallel between the USA and post-Republic Rome. Instead of Citizens prepared to go out and serve their country militarily you soon had people ready to pay somebody else to do it. Like a lot of the rich and powerful do these days to prevent their own from risking their lives. (I mean, really, aren't the rich people's lives worth more than the poor's?)

Instead of a government deciding make the hard choices and do what's best for the country, we seem to have a bunch of people making choices in order to get re-elected or to get their constituents a costly construction job to build bridges to nowhere. (How appropriate, huh?)

But mostly we have people who elect people on the basis of how well they appear on television. People who are trading Freedom for some semblance of security. Which brings us to the Media who try to sell us Hemorroid cream along with these oft self-serving politicos.

I don't know. Is there an answer? I hope so. It'll take more than people sitting around and complaining about what they feel they are incapable of changing (including myself and this little rant - so maybe I'm part of the problem, too)
