He is a wold with immense power so of course he must stay alive so he must eat.
I believe it is one in the same, although the inaccuracies of the wolf are a little confusing the big one of course bieng that wolves are pack hunters they do not hunt alone.
So it makes you think maybe there was actually a bunch of wolves in these fairy tales hunting and feeding.
To answer the question yes it is one wolf, if not a pack of them.

I would say they are AT least related to each other.
