There is a term for an "acceptable" amount of casualty in a war or struggle, and I can't remember it. Too many senior moments these days. Anyone know the term?

It's Acceptable Losses.
Collateral damage is defined by: "Unintentional damage or incidental damage affecting facilities, equipment or personnel, occurring as a result of military actions directed against targeted enemy forces or facilities. Such damage can occur to friendly, neutral, and even enemy forces"

Expendable is geared more towards a specific thing/person or set there of: "Capable of being sacrificed in order to accomplish a military objective"

However I would suppose using expendable as acceptable, I'm not a vocab-nazi.

It's interesting that you would bring up this question now that we are several years into this conflict with slightly over 3000 casualties. It should be rememberd that the pentagon forcasted 1500 casualties in the first few hours of the shock and awe invasion. To think that it has been this long, and the rate of casualties has been this low speaks volumes for the gallant men and women who are taking this fight to the enemy in his own back yard, and have every intention of accomplishing the mission.
