and i quote "self help books wont work because yourself sucks", the best thing is for something external to completely change or life and reinvent yourself. but if you dont want to wait all your life, begin wanting something, set goals in life and accomplish them. going to church helps a lot too, unless youre catholic

My mentors in life were and still are self help books and mags and places like Q&A on Yahoo. It's a great place for undecided writers to strut a bit and see what gets shook loose. First of all, a person who really wants to know how to improve themselves have to get off their self made pedestal and realize imperfections. Ask the right words on the computer and anything can be found. The real challenge is finding the right questions! Oh, motivate. That's as tough as procrastination. Hmm. Some people use bribes, gifts, some coveted thing to make themselves achieve. Usually money is a great motivator. At some point most of us just get sick and tired of the bs and just go ahead and improve ourselves. One suggestion would be go back to school. There's a trend called non-traditional student...retired age people going back. But like I mentioned, money is a great motivator.

Everyone is different but this worked for me. Remember that motivation comes from within. Write down what you want to achieve in life and read it periodically. Make daily goals to achieve the big goal. Be sure to make your goals attainable. Once you see that you can do small steps you will become more motivated.

Or you can go to a hypnotist.

Good Luck :).

Procrastination stems from a yearning for happiness. People choose to be happy in the moment, instead of thinking about themselves later. We all want instant rewards. Next time you think about improving your life, think to yourself, "Will this make me happier later than it makes me now?" That should give you some motivation.

That is an age-old question, and a lot of people have differing views on it. Here's mine:

In order to do anything worth-while in this life it takes two basic things: belief (the EASY part) and a passionate desire (a lot more difficult thing to acquire). There are several other things you need if you want to be successful, the at the root are believing that you can do something or achieve it, and the passionate desire to do so.

So, where do you get the passionate desire? Many times it's simply there--especially when you are very interested in something or desire something enough to make that one of your primary focuses in life. Other times you need to generate it.

Okay, so how do you generate it? There are techniques to do so and people to help you generate the passion for something that interests you (these people are called coaches--just like a basketball or baseball coach motivatges and guides their teams).

If you don't know what you'd like to do to improve your live, be of service to others. That means do something positive for people--without the expectation for any kind of reward or recognition. Read to the elderly or the blind. Read to children at your local library. Volunteer to plant trees in a local park or to deliver food to the shut-in. There are many opportunities to be of service to others in your community--simply look for them.

One technique to generate passionate desire is guided meditation and/or motivational tapes/CDs. There are many sources for these and you can search on the Web for the. How these work is by tuning your subconscious to what you truly desire. There are even guided meditation CDs/tapes to help you discover what it is that you desire most, if you don't know.

Another technique is to get a coach to help you. www.EmpoweredYou.com features a fantastic coach, and she's very good at helping people discover the best and fastest way to achieve what they want.

Any way you look at it, if you don't have passion in your life, you're like a ship without a rudder. While you are finding out what you'd like to do to improve your life, don't forget to be of service to others. From there, your passion will be sparked.

Have fun!!!

You haved ONE chance at this life. ONE! That is motivation enough, because I sure am not going to waste a single moment. I work hard, I play hard. I don't dwell on what I cannot change, and I do work on what I can.

Did I mention that you have ONE chance? What are YOU going to do? Waste your life on stupid stuff? I hope not.

read books about the areas you want to improve ( finance, health, etc) and think positive, religion is useless as long as you have faith in yourself. with faith in yourself all is possible. also make sure the books you read are by profesionals in that area, example a finance book by donald trump or robert kiyosaki as apposed to some guy that got rich by telling other people how to be rich
