Just wondering how important is the coach in Cricket? I have a friend who made a comment
"Greg Chappell is a living legend in Australia. Don't speak badly of him when Tendulkar and Ganguly should've performed. "

Why do you think Chappell should step down? And how important is a coach? How does the coach effect the performance of the players?

A coach is like a teacher, when everything is in the books for student to study, the teacher tells them how to study...the teacher doesnt go for the exams but he makes his students efficient enough to clear the exams. Similarily, A coach is to tell the team about their flaws and strengths and to ask them to work out on them. He doesnt go to play himself but he can give the team, the confidence that they can win the game if they play with a positive attitude.

A coach is very important in cricket as he has a big say in who should be picked for the team and who should play on which day. For example, you don't want 3 spinners on a cricket pitch where it favors fast bowlers and seamers, so things like that have to be scouted and evaluated and thats why a coach is very important.

It is true that Chappell is a living legend...in Australia not India thats why it is better to have Indian coaches. *Ahem we should talk sometime. * I recommend former players because only they know the pressure of playing for the Indian team. The psychological comfort the guy provides while talking to the team helps out a lot as he would be able to relate to them and help them when they are struggling.

Some people are just a better fit to coach a team like the Indian team and thats why Chappell has to step down. He is a good fit but not good enough. He is a good coach but he just cannot relate with the players and that is a huuuuuge disadvantage.

Coaches duty is to formulate a winning strategy, to make a plan that can help the team to win.But if players don't listen to him and can't implement the plan he can't help it.
Also he should have a say on selection of players.
How can you blame someone who has neither selected the team nor is whose plan being implemented.Guys who select the team and those who failed to implement the plan should be blammed.
Yes if coach has formulated a dreadfull plan then he should be blamed.
