I was reading Parade magazine today and this so called "woman genius" named Marilyn vos Savant or something of like that was telling women not to change their last names when they get married and was saying to pass them on to their daughters. I was highly offended as this goes against the principles of female submission to their husband in a marriage and also the "oneness" that marriage is supposed to bring. How do you feel about this?

Would get a bit confusing if the couple had children, mom would have one name, dad and kids another or would the kids have mom`s name ????!!!! Whatever.

I think that's a personal decision between the husband and the wife. A lot of women hyphenate their new last names, and some move their maiden names to replace their middle names. If I ever completely take leave of my senses and get married, I wouldn't mind if she kept her last name.

i dont agree with the submission thing most men quote their religious text to support that but i heard "god made woman from mans rib to stand at his side not from his foot to be at his feet". i am fine with women not taking the mans name the only reason i took my husbands is cause my maiden name was horrible.

I think she has carried that name her whole life, if she wants to keep it, hyphenate it or take mine, it's her call.
Maybe if people worried more about the relationship and less about the trappings of it like their wife changing her name, things would work better.

well if she wants to she should and if she doesnt then she shouldnt why do we need to give something up if we dont want to why do you still believe in submission you should widen youre horizons buddy this is a new era not the old western you really hurt my feelings

I think it's a personal choice....I like my name and it will always be my name...I chose to keep my name when I married...he is fine with it....submission to their husbands???? What rock have you been living under?

I wouldn't marry a woman that would not take my name. I guess I'm old fashioned that way, but we are supposed to be a family.
