Perhaps you mean "Point of Sales System" or "POS System"?
That's basically a computerized cash register that can hook up to inventory and sales databases.

A system is a set of entities and the interactions between them.
A sales system is a description of the process that revolves around making a sale. It can be splitted in subsystems that cover the quoting process, the customer service process, the customer prospecting process and so on.
There are some ideal or conceptual models, but most companies develop their own models based on their experience and strategy.
