Brown blood is just that of old blood. New blood is bright red. It could be that you are coming to the end of your period for this month.

Yes, when I would start and end my periods I would have the blood be brown, but then when my period was in full swing I would get the red blood.

If you are having a problem with heavy flow I would recommend also talking to your mom and your dr. In the mean time try to up the levels of your iron by eating things such as spinach, raisins, and peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts of course). I found that doing this also helped ease the cramps when i would get them.

Don't worry. Our periods are affected by many things and they can fluctuate in regards to amount of flow (spotting to flooding), color of flow (anything from pink to bright red to brown), length of cycle (from 24 to 36 days...even skipping periods), and length of period (anywhere from 3 to 7 days).

In my teens and twenties, I often had really fluky periods like you described above. However, if you are ever really worried, don't be afraid to see your gynecologist.

As for being 3 days late, periods can be thrown off due to:
stress
excessive exercise
changes in weight
fear of being pregnant
wanting to be pregnant
certain medications
illness, etc.

Don't worry....everything is okay. You just had an unusual cycle...it happens.

Heavy periods can be helped with Vitamin C and Bioflavnoids...Bioflavnoids is the white part of a orange between the orange and the peeling....or eat some oranges and the white part. Drink some juice.

sounds fine. periods can go from heavy to light. and since you are only 17, try not to make it a habit of freaking out about your period being a few days late. your body is still adjusting. it may happen this way. well either way, if you are having sex (and i assume you are, since u were worried about pregnancy) i hope you're being safe! that way if your period is late again you wont have to worry so much!
