when is it possible to take your baby off of formula or breast milk?

my baby doesn't seem to drink a whole bottle of milk anymore (6 months old) and will only take a whole bottle if there is juice mixed with it or some baby food in it, (i had to do this with prunes because of constipation) is this ok to be eating maybe 9 oz of formula all day and the rest of the day have it mixed with baby food or prune juice?

They need the calories and nutrition provided by milk. A babys intestines are just not ready to be totally on solids yet.
You really should wait till at least a year.
If your already mixing some food with the feedings I don't see why you can't continue that just not as often like maybe three times a day...

Whew! Have you ever tasted that stuff? Yuk! Anyway, the baby need its formula right now and I figure anyway you can get them to drink it, so be it. At about 9 mo. old you can go ahead and give a sippy cup with some good stuff in it and maybe a little whole milk. After my son got a taste of whole milk at 9 mo he wouldn't drink formula anymore. Didn't hurt him, happy healthy 12 yr. old now. Just be sure to not give the baby anything really good in the bottle after about 9 mo. old or you will hav a time getting them off of the bottle. doctors usually recommend a baby to be on breast milk or formula for the first year of their life. Solids really arn't necessary the first year of life.

It sounds like your babys has developed a sweet tooth.
Stop with the juice or food with the formula and wean him off anything that is sweet. His health depends on good nutrition.

i have a 3 year old girl i toke her off of formula at 1 year old now i have 6 month old boy my doctor told me at 3 month he was on baby food mix with cereal because he will drink 2 bottle of formula and the doctor told by 6 month i will have to give him more baby food it funny why kids are my daughter was 8lb 15 oz when she was born and did not weight that much when she was 6month with the boy he was 6 2 now he 6 month he 15lb

no a 6mth baby needs more milk than that.
talk 2 your doctor. maybe stop the juice alltogether and try gavescon sachets 4 babys in the milk that was baby dosent get a sweet taste with milk. a baby should love its bottles as thats what its main food should still be. at 6mths solids should really only be given now

At 6mnth your baby should be drinking more formula/breast milk than that, feed bub solids at meal times, try not to give bub too much juice, try cool boiled water instead.

Breast milk and formula is important for bub because it has nutrients and minerals essential for bub to grow properly

Do not take bub off formula until at least 12mnths of age this goes for switching to cows milk
