The overclocking will depend on how cool you keep the CPU. The cooler it is, the more you can clock it. You should be able to overclock it to 3.0 GHz with no problem with that type of setup. If they get too hot, the computer will just shut down. Also make sure you get a really good heatsink with heatpipe technology just to add more to the cooling. Depending on how much you use your computer, these CPUs can last a few years. Just make sure you keep them cool..

it all depends on what CPU you have... i have a old 3200+ that is 1.8GHZ stock and I've got it overclocked to 2.5GHz which is 700MHz more and about 40% increase in CUP speed then originally... if you have a good CPU, good RAM that over clocks well, and a good graphics card then you will be able to achieve good speed out of your CPU... with proper cooling your CPU should run for at least 5 to 10 years while overclocked

Get the 2nd. The L2 Cache is larger, the middle is swifter. The reminiscence velocity would not make that lots of a distinction, and DDR3 is plenty extra high priced than DDR2 (overall performance/dollar in ideas to boot).

OVERCLOCKING WILL VOID WARRANTY ON MOBO. IF YOU WANT TO OVERCLOCK, YOU BETTER HAVE SOME GOOD COMPONENTS TO SUPPORT YOUR CHOICE, SUCH AS MEMORY, AND A GOOD HEATSINK. DO NOT INSTALL THE "COOL AND QUIET" PATCH TO YOUR COMPUTER, AND MAKE SURE IT IS TURNED OFF IN THE BIOS.
CHEERS!!

its depend on you how much can you overclock the cpu. a good heat sink is needed to take out the full efficiency from your cpu. overclocking leads to heatup of cpu and if a heat sink is not present then it will burn out.
