I've been wanting to get either a rabbit or a ferret but not sure which one i best. I have 2 cats that stay inside so it needs to get along with them and I want it to have personality bc sometimes it seems like rabbits don't have much of a personality but I'm not sure.

sorry if this was said..I don't really wanna read through all the answers right now.

I have had both rabbits and ferrets...with cats.

Honestly..I wouldn't really be comfortable leaving the cat with the bunny..They have a harder time defending themselves..(even if the cat is just wanting to play..the can get rough and need to know when to stop).

I let my ferret and cats play together all the time. Ferrets have a really tough skin. And they naturally play rough with each other..so they'll be pretty used to the cat playing.

I do supervise when they are playing tho..

kinda always gotta keep your eye on a ferret..lol.

They are a very re warding pet, fairly smart, easy to potty train.. but they are very curious determined little buggers.

If they try to get some where..and you pick em up and put them back down someplace else...they'll go straight back, and do this a few times...till you find something more interesting do distract them with for a bit.

Great pet tho..just needs lots of attention, and patients.

feel free to email me.

I'm a lionhead rabbit breeder, but have also owned ferrets.

Rabbits are going to tolerate cats better, and will have an easier time defending themselves against them. Rabbits are a lot more easy to raise then ferrets, if a ferret isn't raised right it will become rather mean. Both require a good amount of cleaning. Both rabbits and ferrets are just bursting with personality. Both are playful and rather on the smart side.

If you're thinking of getting a rabbit, you should adopt. If you buy a baby bunny, and don't get it fixed, it may spray('specially if it's a male), while shelter rabbits are already altered, and come microchiped.

I have two rabbits and I can attest that they indeed DO have very big personalities! My male loves attention and being petted; he will run up to you and nudge you for food. My female is more shy, but she will come if you pat the ground; she also love to steal cookies and other human food and take them back to her cage. Rabbits also are easily litterbox trained, which makes them smell a lot nicer. My bunnies do fine with my dogs and are fearless around cats as well. However, if you bring home a smaller critter make sure you take the time to properly introduce him to your cats. Cats are predatory animals and might mistake your new critter for a snack! However, when raised together, cats and bunnies can get along great. If you suspect your cats may have a high prey drive opt for a larger bunny...maybe a Flemish Giant - they can get to about 18 or 20 pounds and will have a better chance of survival if anything should ever happen to get out of hand. Of course, bunnies and ferrets reside in cages so it is easier to separate animals if they are not entirely buddy buddy. Get a bunny! They're the best!

I think ferrets are cute, but I am not sure with two cats, I have never had both. But I have played with both, and I would definitely choose a ferret.

I would suggest a rabbit. I adopted on from the animal shelter and he is so funny. He loves to hop all over my dog and he comes over to me to get petted. Hes very smart. He is litter box trained and will even come if I call him. I think they are very good pets, so I would suggest getting a rabbit. Go to your local animal shelter or try petfinder.com and see which rabbits you like, then adopt one!

You really need to do more research on BOTH of these critters before getting either one. Both are routinely bought by people on a whim, and many are returned to shelters because the new owners really didn't know what they were getting into.

Whatever you decide, make sure you have a vet who is GREAT with exotics to take them too soon after you get them for important (and sometimes life-saving) information.

My rabbits have personality! one plays fetch with me even with an old ribbon roll. My friends rabbit chased her cats around and would lick each other or play when they caught each other. It was very cute.
