Sit or stand in a comfortable position. Some women prefer to place one leg on the toilet seat or tub, while others prefer to squat down. After you find a position that is most comfortable for you, hold the tampon with the fingers that you write with. Hold the middle of the tampon, at the spot where the smaller, inner tube inserts into the larger, outer tube. Make sure the string is visible and pointing away from your body.
With your other hand, open the (the folds of skin around the l opening) and position the tampon in the l opening.
Gently push the tampon into the opening, aiming for the small of your back. Stop when your fingers touch your body and the applicator, or outer tube, is completely inside the .
Once the applicator or outer tube is inside of you, use your index finger to push the inner tube (the tube where the removal string is connected) through the outer tube.
Once the inner tube is all the way in, use your thumb and middle finger to remove the applicator or outer tube. Make sure that the string hangs outside of the l opening. Later, when you are ready to remove the tampon, hold the string and gently pull it downward until the entire tampon is out.
If the tampon is inserted correctly, you should not feel it. If you feel uncomfortable in any way, you may have inserted the tampon incorrectly or the tampon may not be placed far enough into the . If this happens, just remove the tampon and start again with a new tampon. Remember that practice makes perfect. If you don't get it on the first try, your second try will most likely be successful. Instead of getting frustrated and giving up, relax and try again!

The best way is to figure out what flow you need i.e. regular, super, superdeluxe... Then to relieve some of the pain try sitting on the toilet legs spread about shoulder width apart..

Also try Playtex Gentle Glide/Tampax Pearl personally I feel that they are the best esp. when in a hurry & when you can't sit completely down.... Plus they come in travel sizes too, so you can change without everyone knowing that you need to because you wont need your whole purse the mini case can fit in your make-up bag, also the mini{not really}tampon fits descritely in the palm of your hand....

(1)Now when inserting hold the applicator in the middle with your middle,ring,& thumb fingers{where the outter: the part that you place into your region; meets the inner:the part you push to insert the tampon into your region}
(2)Push the applicator up into your region until your fingers{middle,ring,& thumb} touch that part of your body
(3)Then use your free finger{preferebly the index} to finish inserting the tampon into your region....
The reason for these 3 steps is so that the tampon will be far enough into you that it wont slip, drip, or drop out..Not only that but your less likely to push it too far into you or break your hymen{if still a virgin}

Also try not to stress too much about using a tampon because this will make the walls contract which contributes to the pain, think of something calm & serene.....

Get a good brand to get the hang of it a little easier.
Like the ones with good plastic outers.
First put the plastic part up in you. Then Slowly push the thing up into slowly. I know that it may hurt at first, and feel really weird, but it will be okay. NOTE: Never leave them in you for over 8 hours. It could cause Toxic Death Syndrome and could possibly put you into a coma. That is very imporant to remember, as some don't.

When I first started using them, I found that putting one foot on the toilet while standing and then putting one in from that direction worked best.

Use a tampon that has a plastic applicator, as these are easier (Kotex or Tampax). Do not use a cardboard applicator at first, as they don't go in as easy. I like Kotex, as it has a little rim/ lip to know that you've pressed the tampon all the way in.

Put one foot on the toilet, and hold the tampon at the middle (on the rim/lip) with your thumb and middle finger. Then put your pointer finger on the top. Make sure that the string is coming out of the top. Place the part that opens up and has the cotton in it at your vagina. If you can't find it, just follow your vaginal lips till it hits a hole, then it should slip in (especially if you are on your period). Push it all the way in till your thumb and middle fingers hit your body. At that point, use your pointer finger to push in the tampon. Push till you hit your other fingers at the rim/lip of the applicator.

The tampon will then push through the applicator, and then you can pull the applicator out. If you used a plastic applicator, throw it in the garbage. Do not flush.

Hopefully that helped!

Your gynocologist would be happy to teach you. You shouldn't be able to feel a thing when it's in correctly. Use the ones where the plastic applicator comes to an upside-down "V". Push it in, then push the applicator, then pull both plastic pieces out. There should be a string hanging out (which you use to take it out) and you should feel nothing. The directions on the box should be better than mine. I t really is easy. Do you have a close friend or relative who could show you? Don't worry, you'll get it. Good luck!

There are directions in every box of tampons. If you are new to this, you should use the kind with an applicator. The way you need to hold them to work, you can't miss as long as you fully extend the applicator.

The most important thing is to relax. Millions of women for decades have been using tampons easily - and most of us are not rocket scientists. And most of us are nervous about them in the beginning, too. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

Peace!

first of all imma say wow! cuase how come a woman hasnt answered this question already, as far as i know about tampons, the new aplicators have a part that collapses in the middle, anyway i would imagine you open you lips, push the applicator all the way up, then push the actually tampon in, and remove the applicator from your place where the sun dont shine, and btw most tampons come with instuctions anyway!

BTW dont even ask how i know all this as a guy lol and no im not gay

The directions are pretty clear, but if that doesn't work, ask your nurse at school to help with the explanation since your mom's explanation didn't help. Maybe you are just not ready to use them. There is a danger factor to them, read the info inside the box.

Read the directions that come with the box.

Do not ask these kinds of questions on here because of all of the sick perverts there are out there.
