Many ethnic German Americans felt themselves superior. Most Americans today have NO idea that German challenged becoming the US language, rather than English.

Check out German American Bund (volksbund), stridently pro-Germany in the 1930s-40s.

I think your question is too broad, given all the countries involved in WWII. However, nationalism and ethnic prejudice seem to always be opposite sides of the same coin: advance the cause of your own kind by demonizing people who are different from you, then kill them.
