What are some advantages and disadvantages of owning a pet fish?

The advantage to me is that fish are very peaceful and relaxing to watch. Even after a busy stressful day where we just feel like shutting everything out, my fish always lighten my spirit. My daughter bought me some fish and an tank set up when I was "down" and going through a divorce. She spent basically her very 1st paycheck on me to help me cheer up and move on. When I look at my fish, I see my beautiful daughter Brandi.

Disadvantages: My two cats climb on top of the tank and drink the water, often making a mess or leaving paw prints on the glass. I hate dirty glass.

The "smell" that acquires in a tank, even after regular cleanings and maintenance, is almost enough to make me sick.

advatages: other than cleaning once a week and feeding every day they don't require much else for care.

disadvantages: you can't interact with them.
