Let them watch PBS when they are small. Honestly, if you raise your kids right, TV won't hurt them. Keeping them away from it will just make them want it more. They will see it all sooner or later anyway just make sure they know they can ask you anything anytime, & try your best to answer them as honestly as you can for their age, instead of making up a fairy tale, like a lot of people do. You don't want them to be too naive, there are certain things they don't need to know yet, but there is a lot they need to know. There is a time & a place for everything, you may be able to decide when they learn some things, but you will never be able to decide when they learn everything so just keep the lines of communication open & let them know they can trust you to answer as honestly as you can for their age.

Welcome to todays world. I personally don't understand why people blame the cartoons for a childs behavior. I think it is up to the parents to teach the child the difference between the good and the bad. Good discipline in the household will teach a child what words to and not to repeat.
Cartoons aren't the worst of. Chances are they have heard that language at home, either from another adult or older sibling. Think of school where other classmates may use language not appropriate. You can't blame cartoons entirely.
What can we do? Well, you could always tie the kid in the room, slap on some earplugs, remove all televisions, radios and computers- that would work but is probably not the best thing to do. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, teach the kids the difference between right and wrong as well as when and when not to use certain language.

Honestly tv isnt the only problem! When your kids go to school do you relaize at recess how many children use bad words! Or bullys! Or how bout the news? There is so much that needs to change but it has to start in the parents!

Buy DVDs of the old Looney Tunes and Mickey Mouse cartoons and tell your kids that those will be the cartoons they will be allowed to watch as "Fairly Oddparents" on Nickelodeon is a load of garbage (as well as the crap on Cartoon Network and the Disney Channel).

Besides, I grew up on those old cartoons just like my parents did. In fact, I think it should be required by law for kids to watch the older cartoons as the newer ones are crap.

Wile E. Coyote walking off a cliff and onto thin air until he realizes that he's walking on nothing and finds himself falling to the ground......NOW THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT! Spongebob has nothing on the classics.

prewatch the shows that you'll allow your kids to watch, watch like at least 2 episodes yourself and see if you personally consider them ok for the kids...

but in all honesty in my opinion, who do you think you're fooling when you try to censor little kids? Once they know that you are purposely hiding something that to them seems nothing wrong, thats when theyll act rebelious to you. Words are just words, you dont need to hide it from them, just let them know that some words are just inapropreiate.

Let them watch Barney - he never said bad words. However, hours upon hours of watching Barney may make YOU want to shoot him.
