Here in India, Pepsi sells Aquafina packaged water, 1000ml for Rs. 15, no problem, but now they've started selling smaller 750ml bottles for Rs. 20. Thus increasing profits. Shopkeepers slowly are withdrawing the 1ltr bottles and replacing them with these new ones. I plan to file a consumer petition against the company, I've already written to several newspapers. What's your take?

How do I actually go about filing the petition, its procedure?

They do it in the united states too. You don't have to drink Pepsi, so you can either suck it up, or just not drink Pepsi. The store owners and the company can do what they want, they are selling you the product. Just because you don't like the price doesn't mean it's unethical.

filing a petition wont stop them from selling at a higher cost, the most it can do is maybe start a boycott, which wont work, because people will always buy pepsi... as long as people buy it, they will continue to sell it at that price, or raise it, like they did.

In the US there is something called price gouging, but this only applies to costs greatly exceeding what a "fair" price would be, in times of emergency, like raising water, or gas prices at a flood evacuation.

It sucks when companies make that much money on something that doesn't cost more than Rs 1 to make... Here in the US, at sports games, or concerts, you will have to pay 4 dollars for a bottle of water.

Theres really nothing you can do about it other than buying the cheap brand...

I don't think it is a good idea to file a consumer petition against the company as u cannot prove they have cheated u. It is best to make the public (consumers) aware of these facts and the public should boycott the use of pepsi water bottles. Indians are very good at boycotting items, history (pre independence) says it. only awareness is needed and someone to lead the boycott.

I don't think it's as serious as that. Those guys have to sustain themselves too, yaar! So they try different tricks to fool the people. But the people are not all that foolish and i don't think that this will have any long-term adverse effects. We should be filing petitions against people who advertise scientifically wrong information so as to sell their products for eg. Dove soap that talks about a pH strip, which is actually a red litmus paper and if dove does not turn it blue at contact then it is not alkaline at all hence not a soap! It has nothing to do with harshness as they claim.

Pepsi is robbing you blind? The shopkeepers do not have the brains to not buy the water and sell it? They also are responsible for the markup of the products they sell. You can write all you want, Pepsi is not breaking any law. Does your country not recognize free enterprise which means they are free to price the items they sell in their stores? Customers are free to buy the products that are being sold. No one is forcing the customers to pay the high price.

In India I have no clue, different country do not understand the rules. I would hope this is the time Coca Cola jumps in and win some customers over.

well that is very interesting, becuase if they did this in the U.S. people would stop drinking pepsi, so i guess pepsi is taking advantage of Indians, you should tell your friends and family to boycot (stop buying) pepsi products and maybe pepsi will be forced to sell bigger bottles for the previous price, but like i said if this happened in america people would be outraged!

Yes. I agree with you. Govt. should must provide simple water to all. Like free education, free health, free roads, free toilet etc. free water is also basic necessaity.
MNC/ industry can provide clear, clean water to all. They can advertise on water stations.

you could always just stop buying the product and save yourself both money and time wasted trying to fix something that you aren't going to be able to fix.
