Ok, this means the black dye that was used to dye the shirt was kinda crappy. This can be somewhat prevented by using Woolite Dark! It works well and it's not harsh on clothes...if your using a bleach alt, that can also cause it. Using a detergent like purex etc can cause fading too...try a good brand like tide or cheer. But def. the woolite dark! or another brand that is used for dark colors, just look in the walmart/target laundry aisle and read the labels. If it's happening on a expensive shirt or like black dockers, then it may also be that your water has lots of extra chemicals in it. Too hard something like that. Also wash darks in cold water too! :) I hope this helps..check out the woolite and tide webpages for coupons and tips! :) good luck! :)

Well if you would like to get them back to original color then I would suggest dyeing them back to black again, and then washing them periodically in White Vinegar to stop fading, but right now there is no other way to reverse this problem other than following the above suggestions or soaking them in a strong black tea mixture and then drying, but this is only temporary at best this method. Also washing them in cold water helps to stop fading Good Luck !

For dark clothes, I suggest washing in cold water only. Also, try Tide...it's a little more expensive, but seems to help clothes hold their color. For shirts you really care about, line dry instead of throwing them in the dryer.

Wash only in cold water. Use Woolite. Turn inside out is good but may not get clothes clean - hand dry - sometimes driers make streaks on dark clothing.
or if it really bothers you then have them dry cleaned; you do not lose any of the dye when things are dry cleaned.

You can buy special laundry detergent for dark clothes. Also I imagine washing your clothing in cold water could help, but with time clothes fade, you can only make them stay black longer.

Clearly you are new to "Laundering"....
darks should be washed in cold water with other darks and a gentle detergent. Letting your fabrics air dry will also contribute to retaining their original color.
Cold Water / NO Dryer

sounds to me like you're using bleach on them. You cant use bleach on colors unless it's Clorox for colors.Make sure to sort you're colors from dark light and White's.Only use cold water to wash darks. The only time I use warm or hot water is when I'm soaking something that's stained.Cold water saves on the electric bill also.
