I became interested in herbal medicine recently when we began using Essiac to treat a pet with cancer (with great success), and I would like some reading suggestions to learn more about herbal treatments of all kinds.

Thank you!

Herbal Medicine - the Natural Way to Get Well and Stay Well - Dian Dincin Buchman;
Back to Eden - the Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Foods & Home Remedies since 1939 by Jethro Kloss; Rosemary Gladstar's "Family Herbal"; 101 Herbs that Heal - Tammi Hartung.
Rodale's Encyclopedia of Herbs {I started with this one -aquaints you with several herbs, not so much medicinal info}.

If you are interested in becoming an herbalist, you may want to do what I did and enroll in the School of Natural Healing - I have found this to be the most educational and there are foundations to be learned that go beyond just what specific herbs may be good for, that is important to know. check out www.schoolofnaturalhealing.com

Greetings,
The best herbal education is being with the plants themselves and spending time with experienced herbalists. However, studying the books, is great too. One of my favorite books to recommend to beginners is written by Rosemary Gladstar and is called, The Family Herbal. I also love Susun Weed's book Healing Wise. Many libraries carry both of these.

As a beginner it is important to develop your personal philosophy on herbalism. Do you believe herbs are used as nourishment and for nurturing the body's innate healing process? Do you feel that it is important to develop a relationship with the plants or are you satisfied to read a book or advertisement and take whatever herb is suggested?

I hope your journey into herbalism is filled with joy!

Hi,
Have you ever heard of Goji Juice? Your body's ten trillion cells are under constant attack by free radicals. These harmful environmental agents can accelerate aging by destroying vital body cells faster than they can be replaced. Goji is known as the "longevity fruit." Its unique master molecule polysaccharides and powerful antioxidants defend against premature aging, fighting free radical damage throughout the body. I really like the book prescription for nutritional healing. It deals with vits, minerals, herbs, etc, which you can look up by name for a definition, its use and dosage, (much more info) or you can look up your health concerns and find natural solutions. the fourth edition is at your local bookstore
