I used to change mine a lot to avoid people literally following me around Answers. But as I became more experienced I learned there's other ways they can find you.
As for why people are doing it right now? Change of season maybe.

They collect fans then wanna shake em.....Some people forget that it's easy to pick up on a writers style no matter how many times they change names........
