I was just typing in an adress in the bar and then the screen started fading and turned into a bunch of lines..... I turned it off and on and the lines are still there.

Sounds like the screen is faulty.
1. wiggle the screen base up and down (if it changes its a bad connection).
2. if you have a vga out port -- plug a computer screen in. If it works its your screen, if not its you graphics chip.

Your screen might have gone bad and needs to be service. I think the lines is caused by a malfunction FL Inverter on your laptop screen.
Call your laptop manufacturer to see if you still have any warranty on your system.
