I'm giving myself a year to think about this. I currently work at a law library. I received my bachelor's degree in history two years ago and I am contemplating going back for a master's in Library and Informational Sciences. However...

...my original plan was to get my master's in history and teach at a jr. college. A couple of people told me that there was a way to do both. The director at the law library told me (after work one day) that it would be quite a burden to pursue two master's degrees simultaneously. A career counselor wants to set me up with someone who is both teaching history and working at a library (which I will do one of those informational interviews).

What should I do? I have two things I'd love to do but I'm conflicted. My original plan was to be a history professor but now I'm also interesed in library science (my grandma wants me to do this).

Any suggestions? For the record, I have given thought about law school but I have lost interest in it.

Well I would think that both degrees require quite a bit of reading, studying and memorizing and that burn-out might occur. I always wanted to go for library science and become a librarian myself, but there is so much reading in the curriculum that it didn't seem feasible to me. It was my understanding that the library science curriculum includes literature-based courses and that to teach history at the jr college level, one would need a degree in higher or secondary education while specializing in history. That would seem like quite a rigorous program each by themselves, let alone simultaneously. And if you're merely thinking of going into the library science field due to your grandma wanting you to, you may be quite miserable and unhappy in the program if it's for someone other than yourself. You are the person that has to work the full time shift right :) Best of luck with whatever field you choose!

Not really sure of the job requirements for this but how about getting your Master's in history and applying that knowledge to that particular area of the library (trust me, students do go to do research on historical events, etc.) AND teaching a History class or two @ the same time
