The argument is that drugs are bad for society as a whole, therefore they should remain ilegal; almost like a public safeguard. On the other hand, some people feel that drugs should be legalized for the so called "free rights of the public." In addition to that, people think that the money being used to get rid of drug cartels etc. would have better use elsewhere... of course the people who use them want to use them 'freely' too so they're for it.... What do you think and why?

I don't see how the government can justify booze and cigs being legal while marijuana is not. Tobacco is more addictive then cocaine and kills more people then murder. But we have the right to smoke cigarettes. Alcohol related driving accidents are the number one killer of young people but we have the right to drink.. Congress is like your parents you must obey there word or you get punished; Even when it's clear they are wrong. Decriminalizing marijuana would free up billions of dollars in local and federal budgets. It would relive overcrowded prisons and jails of non-violent offenders, and take billions of dollars out of the hands of dangerous criminals.. The people have lost control of today's government. Rich idealistic white color criminals have control of today's government, and are more interested in personal gain then the welfare of the nation..

I think even cigarettes are to be banned.
One of the most crucial roles of the government is to protect us from ourselves. That is why there are safety laws like wearing a seat-belt in a car and wearing a helmet riding a bike.

The way I see it, the only reason why the government has not banned cigarettes is because the dangers were not so apparent when it became wide-spread, and now it is very hard to rid of it.

However, drugs like cigarettes have no 'safe' use (unless prescription) and all use is harmful. Yes, a person has many rights, but as a person, he should not have the right to commit suicide, or in other words, to damage himself. Why? Because we know that a person does not really want to damage himself, but he just can't resist the temptation. That is why we have the Government.

Oh, about money used to rid drug cartels - they size more money then spent in those operations, so it actually brings a surplus in.

Illegal Drugs are a big money maker. I truly believe that the people that produce them do not want them to be legalized because if that was to happend they would be out of a job and out all their billions of dollars.

Do not get me wrong I do not think that illegal drugs are good in any way, however, I do believe that if we legalize them and make them accesible, at certain controled locations, to people that want to do this drugs our streets and our kids would be in less danger.
