Step ONE: turn OFF the computer

Step TWO: turn OFF the lights

Step THREE: listen to soft, soothing music or white noise

Step FOUR: breathe deeply and evenly, in through the nose, out through the mouth

Step FIVE: if you're still awake after 30 min., try some chamomile or valerian tea. I just had a cup of valerian myself and am about to be off to take my own good advice!

When you are stuck thinking about life or what not, it's hard to lay down and drift to sleep. What really cuts my sleep time down is the amount of electronics in my room. I get up and find random time wasting things on the Internet, something to watch on TV, pick up the PSP, so many things to do with so little time right?

I cut off the Internet and put away anything that would make me get up and try to avoid sleep. I understand when there are a lot of things on your mind, so when that happens to me I usually pick up a piece of paper and start drawing out whatever is in my mind. After all that is out, I usually start to feel sleepy and quickly knock out. Then again you can always take those non-addictive sleeping pills, but I never took any.

Read this and get off the computer immediately!! You can't force sleep but my method gets me there faster, hope it works for you.

Try playing your favorite music in the back ground, drink warm milk, take a warm shower, or try just laying in bed and keep your mind completely blank.

The only thing that works for me is to lay completely still, and to picture pure blackness or a brick wall. I force myself to only think of that and nothing else and I usually go to sleep pretty quickly.
